200 Years
Established on October 28, 1826, Bedeque Baptist Church has been a steadfast presence in the community for nearly 200 years. Through times of war, economic hardship, and life’s many ups and downs, this congregation has faithfully served generations of Island farmers, business owners, and families with hope, compassion, and resilience.

The strength of a congregation lies not in any one individual, but in the depth of discipleship shared among its members. At the same time, we are grateful for the leadership of our pastor, whose teaching brings the Word of God to life each Sunday.
Rev Steven Townsend
Pastor
Steven is a gifted speaker and a compassionate pastor who grew up in this very congregation and has faithfully served Bedeque Baptist Church for 5 years. He also pastors Belmont Baptist Church since 2001, and is working to strengthen both congregations in faith and love for the surrounding community. Steven’s ministry reflects his deep love for Jesus, the Word of God, and the people he serves. He is especially passionate about social justice, striving to extend Christ’s love to those who are often overlooked or marginalized.
Steven is a bivocational pastor meaning that he has a primary career as a teacher at Holland College. He received his pastoral training at Acadia Divinity College.
